Resins, acids, essential oil, bitter principle. Diuretic, stimulant, aphrodisiac, stomachic, astringent, haemostatic, expectorant, sudorific, corroborant. Solutions of Mastic in alcohol, ether or chloroform are used, applied on cotton-wool, as temporary stoppings of carious teeth, and the gum is also employed as an ingredient of surgical varnishes and plasters.
