Most commercially-prepared quality perfumes utilize perfumer's alcohol in their formulations. Perfumery alcohol is a "fixative" for natural essential oils and man-made ingredients in the event that the perfumes must sit for months on a retail shelf. Denatured Alcohol SDA 40B (Specially Denatured Alcohol 40-B) is commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products. SDA 40-B is ethanol (ethyl alcohol) that has been denatured meaning it’s made undrinkable by adding a denaturant (like t-butyl alcohol or denatonium benzoate).
